Acting to defuse renewed tension at Israel's most sensitive site, Jerusalem
police announced Tuesday
that they would bar a massive Jewish pilgrimage to the Temple Mount by a group of ultra-nationalists opposed to the planned withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Police said that they had notified Islamic Wakf officials of their stance,
and that the bitterly
contested holy site would only be open to regular visits of smaller groups, and individuals, all of whom undergo a security screening check before entry.
Earlier this month, several extremist Rabbis, including Yisrael Ariel and Yosef Elboim, were filmed as they discussed plans to bring "thousands" of people to the mount next month in what was to be the first of a series of protest on Judaism's holiest site against the planned pullout from Gaza.
The campaign, which was to be launched on April 10 to coincide with the eve of the Hebrew month of Nissan, had planned to bring up to 10,000 people to the Mount at one time, in an effort to occupy police and army, and take them away from Gaza.
A campaign organizer, David Ha'Ivri, said Tuesday that contacts were "ongoing" with police to make the Temple Mount "more accessible" to Jewish visitors.
In their announcement, police said that they would permit no more than several dozen people at a time from entering the holy site during normal morning visiting hours, and would act against anyone who tried to break the law.
Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said Tuesday that police had neither received nor approved any requests for the publicized event, and that in any case police would nor permit anything beyond several dozen people from entering the site at one time in keeping with standard procedure.
In an unusual move, police revealed that they had assured east Jerusalem
based Palestinian religious
officials of their stance in the wake of their concern that Jewish extremists would try to create a provocation at the site.
According to decades-old regulation at the site, Israel maintains overall
security control at the
Temple Mount, while the Wakf, or Islamic Trust, is in charge of the day-to-day maintenance of the compound.
Over the last six months, police and security officials have repeatedly warned of attempts to attack the super-sensitive Jerusalem holy site as a way of sabotaging the planned summer pullout from Gaza.
The head of the domestic Shin Bet security service Avi Dichter has said that coupled with the possibility of an assassination attempt on the life of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon the threat of an attack by Jewish extremists on the Temple Mount is of the highest concern among security officials, as Israel prepares to withdraw from Gaza.
In light of the threats, Jerusalem police chief Ilan Franco recently ordered more patrols in and around the compound. Some 700 officers, including regular police, paramilitary border troops and undercover forces, are regularly assigned to the Old City.
Plans to attack a mosque on the mount are not unprecedented.
Two decades ago, the Shin Bet caught a group of Jewish extremists who had amassed large amounts of army explosives intending to blow up the Dome of the Rock
Swastika and the Star of David: Dangerous Games of Postmodern Art
The history of sensationalist exhibitions and manipulated media events from the Brooklyn Museum's Sensation to the Jewish Museum's recent Mirroring Evil have left few sacred cows unslaughtered. Most of these calculatedly postmodern events have successfully offended religious sensibilities, outraged and/or entertained cultural audiences and have given the artists and their curators much more than the fifteen minutes of fame they deserve. What none of them did was to foster hatred of a vulnerable minority. That has been left to a quiet little of exhibition of Komar and Melamid: Symbols of the Big Bang wherein the artists combine the swastika and the Star of David in an escapade of transgressive art.
This provocation is being currently offered by the famous Russian émigré artists Komar and Melamid at the Yeshiva University Museum. Their controversial history has been well documented in the Western press. They initiated SotsArt in the 1970's, a Soviet reflection of Pop Art, offering a dissident version of Socialist Realism that used political satire, criticism and self-irony to deconstruct the myths of the Soviet system. At the 1974 "unofficial" art show in Moscow their work, among others, was bulldozed by police making them heroes of the Soviet dissident movement. In 1977 they immigrated to Israel and soon after to the United States.
The work developed in what is now classic postmodern style using irony and deconstruction to critically examine normative values and aesthetics. Postmodernism used in this way can be a creative tool of social criticism and change. In 1979 they established Komar & Melamid, Inc. a project to buy and sell souls as a deconstruction of the capitalist marketplace. To celebrate the king of Pop Art, Andy Warhol's soul was auctioned in Moscow for 30 rubles. They proceeded with many other projects, mostly ironic send-ups of the icons of American mythology combining Soviet and American posters as the basis for their images.
In 1981 they produced the painting, Portrait of Hitler, as an "ironic mockery of Hitler's pomp and pretension…" (so characterized by Ori Soltes in the current catalogue)." Melamid commented at the time; "Hitler was a good thing for the Jews, a kind of Messiah. He threw Jews out of Jewish history into world history. Because of him Jews are world-personalities..." Komar and Melamid are masters of provocation and delight in outraging the establishment wherever they are even as they cynically played their Jewish identity for maximum effect.
Hitler the Nasi of the generation, after all anti-Shema-tism is necessary for the management of the "Lesser jews" protocols of the "Illuminated Master" Hassidin of zion
The most disturbing aspect of the current exhibition is that in light of rising anti-Semitism these symbols, the swastika combined with the Star of David, will be seen as equating the Jewish State with Nazism. This vicious libel arises out of the facile application of private meanings for public symbols. Komar and Melamid's personal vision, at least according to Soltes, is the hope that in the combination of the swastika and Star of David in a mystical mandala they will effect a reconciliation of radical opposites. What they chose to ignore is that these high profile symbols have a much more ominous contemporary reality.
The exhibition of sixty mixed media drawings on graph paper and four large oil paintings symbolically depict the Big Bang before its dissolution in creation. The works use ancient symbols of yin-yang, swastika, mandala, Star of David, the serpent Ouroboros and esoteric kabalistic constructions to represent the moment of unity of light and darkness before creation. Because of the artists' relatively static approach to such esoteric mysteries, many of the works tend to be pretty banal. A drawing of a startled bird in the shape of a Star of David is seen grasping an olive branch and is surrounded by a serpent devouring its own tail (Ouroboros). The literal depiction clashes violently with the effort at cosmic relevance. In the oil paintings the use of the human skull, the jester's cap and the hourglass invoking the classical vanitas read as pretentious images evoking obvious irony.
Symbols of the Big Bang #134 (2001-2002), work on paper by Komar & Melamid
Understanding these self-indulgent images is dependent on esoteric knowledge of ancient Egyptian and Gnostic symbols and a high tolerance for New Age theory that posits the universality of cultural origins. Karl Jung's work that theorized universal archetypes that make up the collective unconsciousness was popularized in the counterculture of the 1960's and served as intellectual ammunition to attack Western established religions by affirming just about everything else. By using a wide variety of multicultural symbols and shapes and combining them with the Star of David the artists blur very real distinction between cultures. The wish to depict symbolically the essential mystery of God and His Oneness at the moment of Creation is foolishly grandiose. As with all such pictorial schemes to explain mystical concepts, they collapse into formulas that are necessarily trite. While the yin-yang as a sign evokes eternal opposites, it fails as an integrated aesthetic element in a drawing or painting. Much of Komar and Melamid's work plays with these symbols in various combinations as a kind of open-ended conceptual sketchbook
Symbols of the Big Bang #224 (2001-2002), oil on canvas by Komar & Melamid
The drawings that combine the swastika and the Star of David follow this format with one important difference. Here Komar and Melamid propose them to be the "pictorial equivalent of the opposing values, good and evil." In the catalogue drawing after drawing depicts the interlocked symbols in gold and blue and then, more frighteningly, in black, red, blue and white (respective colors of the Nazi and Israeli flags). According to the catalogue they are intended to epitomize the eternal struggle between good and evil found at creation. The works claim to be totally ahistorical, aiming for cosmic insights. Unfortunately these symbols resist an ahistorical reading with all their might. The swastika is stubbornly embedded with the horrors of Nazi fascism and the Star of David can operate only as a sign for the Jews and Israel. It cannot be avoided. Its use here is in fact a deliberate provocation.
Symbols of the Big Bang #15 (2001-2002), work on paper by Komar & Melamid
Komar and Melamid's symbolic images are all too easily misinterpreted at a time of vicious antisemitism and anti-Israel views. Jews are vilified daily for the simple practice of their religion and the defense of their land. The Irish poet Tom Paulin, a visiting professor at Columbia and a guest lecturer at Harvard, was recently quoted in the Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram as saying that the Jewish settlers in the West Bank, " should be shot dead…I think they are Nazis, racists; I feel nothing but hatred for them." His vitriolic attacks are defended as an exercise in free speech even as Columbia is besieged with anti-Israel protesters demanding university divestment from Israel. "The aim of divestment is predicated on the idea that Zionism equals racism," commented Richard M. Joel, past president of Hillel International and current President of Yeshiva University. The very legitimacy of the Jewish State is currently under attack.
Holocaust deniers freely publish the canard that the Holocaust never occurred and claim that it is a Jewish fiction to garner world sympathy, grab Arab land and oppress the Palestinians. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, the czarist antisemitic forgery,(hahahahhhahhehhehehhehe) is circulated in the Arab world, Japan and among far right groups depicting Jews as a cabal seeking world domination. A current Egyptian hit television series, "Horseman Without a Horse" treats the Protocols as historical fact. The intertwining of the swastika and the Star of David can only mean one thing in today's hysterical world; the equivalency between Nazism and Zionism.
This symbolic equation is most provocatively displayed on the catalogue cover and depicted in three of the drawings on exhibit. Two of the three essays examine these notions flamboyantly where the artists and their commentators are more than eager to play with the fire of anti-Israel rhetoric in blithe disregard of the consequences.
Symbols of the Big Bang #117 (2001-2002), work on paper by Komar & Melamid
Neither Komar nor Melamid nor Yeshiva University Museum wish to see the demise of the State of Israel. It would be absurd to consider such attitudes on the part of either. However, what they have done is to use powerful symbols in an idiosyncratically ahistorical context in a public forum. And therein lies the confusion and very real danger, for it is ultimately reckless and irresponsible.
The current use of symbols in a Jewish context is a radical break for Komar and Melamid. Ori Soltes, in his extensive and laudatory catalogue essay, sees eclecticism, paradox, contradiction, sarcasm and cynicism in their work as evidence of Jewish content. Unfortunately his view of Jewish identity is fixated in the circumstances of Jewish history as "wanderers, eternal emigrants…as well as iconoclasts and ironists…" rather than the rich creative content of Jewish thought throughout the ages. Jews have not thought of themselves as outsiders throughout the two thousand year Diaspora. Rather they have created an internal universe of intellectual and spiritual richness founded on the bedrock of the Hebrew Bible.(Talmud Bavli) Jews connected with the intellectual tradition of Maimonides, Luzzatto and Soloveitchik are deeply engaged with the world, not alienated strangers in some postmodern sense. Unfortunately it is the secularist view that is estranged from Jewish identity.
For the most part Komar and Melamid's earlier work is devoid of Jewish content. The Asian Elephant Art and Conservation Project (1990) confirm their credentials as full-fledged conceptual artists with a dash of pranksterism added for good measure. It was touted as "the world's first quadruped occupational retraining program, a network of schools for elephants rendered unemployed" due to the 1990 ban on logging in Thailand. The elephants were taught to paint abstract paintings by Komar and Melamid. The Most Wanted Painting and The Least Wanted Painting Project in the late 1990's saw paintings created by them according to national public opinion surveys and then posted on the Web. Both these projects are nose-thumbing deconstructions of the powerful art world that Komar and Melamid depend upon for their subsistence.
In light of this history, Komar and Melamid can be seen as model postmodern artists. Irony and cultural appropriations are the hallmarks of their productions, therefore, one wonders whether the central premise of Symbols of the Big Bang can be taken at face value. If in fact it is yet another ironic deconstruction, this time of the very nature of symbols (Shem-bols) and their role in the modern world, the exhibition may have revealed a far darker side to postmodernist deconstruction than a simply mistaken ahistoricism. Lurking just below the surface is an amoral willingness to flaunt just about anything.
Komar and Melamid know the full force of the symbols that they have chosen to play with, even as they may want to " dissolve the very fixity of these symbols." Their willfulness is expressed in a delight of transgression. This too is a technique of deconstruction, to push the conceptual envelope so as to effect the most radical examination of cultural, and here political, norms. I can imagine them exclaim, "Can we suggest the forbidden, dare to challenge the sacrosanct nature of the Israeli state? Dare we suggest that Israel is illegitimate, here in an orthodox Jewish museum in the heart of America's most Jewish city?" It is here, in the contemporary meanings of the swastika and the Star of David artworks, that Komar and Melamid crossover from dissident postmodernists to artists capable of making seriously dangerous art. To engender hatred of Jews and the state of Israel is no laughing matter. It is here that the postmodernist games must end.

It ain't gonna happen........Disengagement
The warmongerers must have their war to bring the Son of Perdition and the Snare
The present situation in Israel is obviously one of the most significant issues facing the Jewish people today. The question must be asked: what is the halachic (Talmudic Law) directive in this regard? Differing opinions are actually heard from various poskim (High priest of Sanhedrin of satan) and Torah scholars;
Poskim) is the term in Jewish law for "legal decisor" - a
rabbi who decides
the Halakha in cases of law where previous authorities are inconclusive
there are those that favour the peace initiative and those against it. What, though, is the nature of this disagreement? Do they differ in matters of Halacha or is the disagreement in mitzi'ut? Those who favour the peace treaty declare the woe, lo aleinu, that will ensue if it fails;
Anti-Shem terror.....opposition to Talmudic Global slavery
those who oppose it declare similar misfortune, again lo aleinu, if it continues. Clearly the determination of the halachic directive is necessary, yet, the argument over the peace treaty seems to be an argument of what will happen, how to correctly assess reality. This seems to be a matter of mitzi'ut - for determination by experts in the fields of military science, diplomacy or politics. While a posek must ultimately render a decision based upon his determination of facts, based even upon conflicting expert opinions in these variant fields, the discussion is not for the beit midrash.(A Liberal Yeshiva) While there is passionate disagreement over the peace treaty, this matter does not seem to be a disagreement in Torah theory - or is it? Is there a halachic issue in regard to the peace initiative?
The underlying assumption in declaring the argument regarding the peace treaty a machloket b'mitzi'ut is that the halachic directive is clear. In this matter, that directive would be that in the interest of peace, guaranteed peace, it would be permissible, even mandatory, to trade land for peace. The question is whether this agreement will bring peace - a question of fact.
1Thes:5:3: For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
In discussing this matter with many opposed to the present initiative, they admit that if peace was guaranteed, they would, albeit reluctantly, trade land. It is, however, not universally accepted that, halachically, land can indeed be traded for even a guaranteed peace. Rabbi Herschel Schachter, Journal of Halacha and Contemporary Society, Number 16, "Land for Peace: A Halachic Perspective" expresses the opinion that, in certain circumstances, it may even be forbidden to trade land for peace.
We are clearly more comfortable in approaching the present argument over the peace initiative as a machloket b'mitzi'ut. Even Rabbi Aaron M. Schreiber, The Journal of Halacha and Contemporary Society, Number 18, "Relinquishing Yehudah and Shomron: A Response to Rabbi Bleich", in response to the article of Rabbi J. David Bleich, The Journal of Halacha and Contemporary Society, Number 16, "Of Land, Peace and Divine Command" which argues that land can indeed be traded for peace (although Rabbi Bleich, writing actually before the present peace initiative, does also present the concerns about the possibility of genuine peace - see, further, Rabbi J. David Bleich, The Journal of Halacha and Contemporary Society, Number 18, "Withdrawal From Liberated Territories" in response to Rabbi Schreiber), falls back on the mitzi'ut issue that relinquishing territory would only be suicidal.
Mt:23:8: But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
Bluntly, Judaism values human life.
Judaism of Talmud Bavli Values only Jewish life for they are the Master Race over the goyim animals.....see talmud Bavli @ www.come-and-hear.com
This is a powerful halachic concept. Piku'ach nefesh, even safek piku'ach nefesh, the threat to life, even the possibility of threat to life, overrides most commandments, even Shabbat.
See Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Shabbat 2:1. We are less troubled perceiving the issue to be one of protecting human life with our disagreement centring on the reality that will best assure this outcome. Rabbi Schachter's assertion that even at the expense of peace - even at the cost of Jewish lives - we may be forbidden to trade land, is one that forces us to truly confront our understanding of Israel and political sovereignty in the realm of halachic values.
Each individual human life is of great importance within the world of Torah values. There is the famous Mishneh Sanhedrin 4:5 that compares a life to a universe.
Jewish Life ONLY
There is also the famous law that even at the expense of the entire community, we are prohibited to hand over one person to attackers to be killed. Each life is qualitatively unique and not to be part of a quantified entity. See, further, Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Yesodei HaTorah 5:5. Yet, human life is not always halachically paramount. There are values that override as evidenced by the three categories of Torah law which we must not violate even at the cost of our lives: avodah zarah (idolatry), shefichat damim (murder), gilu'i arayot (the major sexual violations).
But it is ok for a man to have sex with a Girl no more that three years and a day, or a mother to have sex with he Jewish son if he is less than nine years and a day (Talmud Bavli)
The concept of kiddush haShem, sanctifying God's Name calls upon us to place demonstration of belief above even life. See Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Yesodei HaTorah, chap. 5 and Shulchan Aruch, Yoreh De'ah, chap. 157. The halachic question that we must face in considering this peace initiative is whether Jewish sovereignty in Israel is also a value that overrides life? and if so, to what extent?
see the Head Nasi who was hired to create anti-Shematism in Europe to create ISREALHELL. They only had to sacrifice six million of the "Lesser jews" to get their whore by Proxy, Now they must do the same to get Eretz ISREALHELL, the entire land of Babylon and their Moshiach ben satan. Do you hear in Judaea ? The war in Israel is about to begin, It matters not to the Hassidim how many "Lesser Jews" Die, for they must have their Global Rule for their son of Perdition that son of the Dragon and the son of the beast, Sanhedrin and his temporary Hoodlum haha of serpent jack booted Nasi thugs, and the Universal Noahide Enslavement of the less than animals "Goyim"
It is most interesting that we, as a community, did not confront this very question when Israel was first established. The reality was that even the establishment of the State and subsequent war (WWII) was perceived also as an issue of human life. After the horror of the Holocaust, the establishment of a safe haven for our people was a clear necessity. The cost of war was framed as a question of risking one's life to save other lives. (See, further, Rabbi J. David Bleich, Contemporary Halakhic Problems, Volume 2, Chapter 10 for a brief introduction to this issue.) This may, in fact, have been the truth and may still, based on one's perception of the mitzi'ut today, be the truth. Yet, it is perhaps time for us to recognize the significant underlying halachic issue of the value of political sovereignty - of a Jewish State - in relation to the value of life. And this is not just an issue in regard to Yehudah and Shomron (Judah and Samaria, Aholah and Aholibah) but involves the very nature of the State. Halachically, when does the value of Jewish sovereignty override the value of life, if ever, and when does the value of life override the value of Jewish sovereignty, if ever? Trading land for peace is but one issue within a broader halachic concern that touches the very essence of our connection to Israel.
Minchat Chinuch, mitzvah 425 states that whenever the Torah demands war,
(Satans Talmud Bavli of murdering Goyim) implicit in the command is the assumption of danger. The Torah, by definition, is commanding with the recognition that there is loss of human life on both sides of a conflict. If the mitzvah of kivush eretz Yisrael, conquering the land of Israel, applies today, then the command to achieve political sovereignty would apply even when there is sakana, danger.
Bushkevik's Road Map to HELL of ISREALHELL, that he knows will fail for his hassidim steer him in their crooked paths of satan
A significant question for our discussion is, thus, whether this command applies today? If one argues there is no command to conquer, would a command not to relinquish even at the expense of war, though, still apply? Is there another reason for declaring war mandatory?
Interestingly, Rabbi Schachter argues that since war is part of the process of geula, redemption, stopping the war (i.e. the present hostilities between Israel and the Arabs) prematurely would not be allowed;
sick lust of their father the murderer since the beginning they do.....their god of wars that tetragrammaton YWVH...who Judeao-Churchinsanity the Luke warm murderous cashite mammonites of bloodlust say is their father, a dragon god who has no Only Begotten Son, but does have his son of Perdition who they will have, Moshiach ben satan, false Christ
as it is the war leading to the geula, (False redemption of the "Robber" they have chosen) halting it will only delay the coming of the redemption.
and that son of Perdition, so WAR and Human sacrifice the Vipers of hell must have
Such an assertion can only be based on a supernatural understanding of these events which, according to Rabbi Schachter, would have halachic validity. Yet, the Minchat Chinuch's very argument that a mitzvah dealing with war must allow for sakana (Danger) was based on the premise that Halacha always works within the natural realm. Notwithstanding this and other possible questions on Rabbi Schachter's position, (including challenges to the necessity of war as a prelude to geula - see also Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Melachim 12:2), the emphatic point is made. The question is not just human life and the machloket b'mitzi'ut of which process, maintaining the land or trading land for peace, will ensure the greatest protection of life. While this question of reality still remains a most important matter for resolution, we now see that there are other issues that necessitate discussion - in the beit midrash. Israel represents, or may represent, other values - national sovereignty, Jewish presence in the land of our forefathers, hitchalta d'geula, the beginning of the redemption - and there is the need to halachically clarify the clash of these values with the value of human life.
The formulation of the Minchat Chinuch, especially in light of the comments of Chinuch, mitzvah 425 himself, must be further reviewed. The specific mitzvah under discussion concerned the command to destroy the "Seven Nations".
Syria, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt......May the LORD Jesus the Christ have mercy upon the earth, them who stand Firm against these serpents of the Sanhedrin
The Chinuch writes that if one finds a member of these nations and can kill this person without sakana, then one is commanded to kill this member of the "Seven Nations".
It is to this that the Minchat Chinuch responds that, by definition, since this mitzvah involved war, the command had to exist even in the face of sakana.
By the Bloodlust of satan thus they Justify war, then by war Justify to slay the people's pf these nations. Now Judeao-Apostasy of the den of serpents, who worship the god of forces with these Vipers are with them, and are delusioned with the Lies of satan and are No Christ followers, saints who will "Stand Firm" These seek to be rescued by their god for their mammonite self righteousness and are deceived, for because they believed not the TRUTH (IAMHE) in Righteousness God has sent them strong delusion so they Believe the LIE and the Father of lies.....satan their dragon god of the Talmdic jews
He concludes his remarks with a question on the Chinuch. A possible way of understanding the Chinuch, though, would be to postulate that war is a unique category of sakana. On a private, personal level, piku'ach nefesh, life overrides even this command. On the communal level, a sakana known as war is to be tolerated. This is further evidenced by the very fact that the Jewish nation is permitted to enter war at their own initiative (given the meeting of certain requirements) while on a individual level we could not contemplate a similar level of sakana (and aggression) to meet our personal demands.
Rv:18:24: And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
See, further, on the unique category of war, Ntziv, HaEmek Davar, Bereishit 9:5 and Devarim 20:8. In this perspective, it may not be that political sovereignty overrides life per se but that in regard to this value, the unique communal danger of war is to be tolerated or even mandated.
Dan:9:26: And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
But then war, in its own strange way, has its own rules. What is a tolerable war? When does victory become too costly? T.B. Shevuot 35b states that a monarchy (i.e. government) that only kills one in six is not punished.
How many of these in these nations will die at the hands of satan's shema-GoG and Heil Bushkevik the Nasi of the apostate "Amarakan" Generation?
Tosfot, d.h. D'katla clearly applies this statement to a nation's right to wage war. Is this gemara introducing some standard of acceptable war? Would this be a standard for toleration or, also, obligation, in evaluating a war situation?
Yet by double speak the Arabs have no right to defend against PURIM of satan
Yet, we must also ask if we as a Jewish nation, at the present time, can be in a halachically defined and acceptable situation of war where these unique conditions would apply? See for background information on the halachic definitions and attitude in regard to war, Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Melachim, chapters 5-8. For further discussion of the issue, see also Rabbi J. David Bleich, Contemporary Halachic Problems, Volume 2, Chapter 7 and Volume 3, Chapter 11. The question of whether we are to halachically approach the situation in Israel solely within the realm of personal individual law, allowing only the rights as individuals to defend self and property, or within the realm of public national law, allowing the unique right as a nation to wage war, is significant. It is not surprising that the authors, noted above, that discuss the issue of land for peace, while perhaps not explicitly, implicitly include within their discussion this important point. (Interestingly, a consequential factor in this entire discussion is the role of the urim v'tumim in war and whether it is, at one extreme, necessary even in waging an obligated war or not even necessary in a discretionary war?)
Other questions also have to be addressed. One is our responsibility to Torah (Tamud Bavli of satan) belief ideals within the land (see Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Avodat Kochavim, chapter 10) and the necessary clarification of our relationship to Islam and Christianity. Paradoxically, one of the arguments for the heter shemittah, the halachic method used to bypass the agricultural restrictions of the Seventh Year, was the enhanced status of the Muslim as a non-idolator. See Rabbi M.Z. Neriya, "The History of the Heter for Shemittah" in The Shemittah Year. Could this status now also affect, in favour of a treaty, the matter at hand ? (On the specific question of the status of non-Jews today, see, also Nishma: Issues, Numbers 1 and 3.)
The Judeao Churchinsanist who worshp the gods of the Triune Shekinah are also qualified as Noahides. The "STAND FIRMERS", the saints of the ONLY IAMHE are not for they believe in the ONE GOD Christ Jesus the Image of the invisible God and are to be purged by decapitation as idolatry worshippers by the same Serpents who crucified the LORD, that Beast Sanhedrin risen out of the seas of apostasy and blasphemy
Truthfully, we should also mention that in the machloket b'mitzi'ut issue itself, there are also halachic questions for investigation regarding how we are to respond given conflicting facts - and even in regard to our, or the posek's, right to resolve factual disagreements given that we are not experts in the field. Doubt as to the reality is also a mitzi'ut case to which Halacha responds. This matter is even more pronounced when the issue concerns life. Safek peku'ach nefesh, even the chance of danger, is deemed to override Shabbat.
Yet they called Jesus a Blasphemer when he made the man whole on Sabbath....the Viper Hypocrites of hell. They will sacrifice as many as they need, even on their sabbath
But what does one do when either choice could be life-saving or life-threatening? This question arises to a great extent in regard to experimental medical therapy and I direct you to the many works on medical ethics that investigate this issue. It should also be noted that a further mitzi'ut issue that may need resolution could be the cost of continued war.
We must also turn to historical precedent. Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai's surrender to Rome obviously indicates that at some point relinquishing political sovereignty for peace is acceptable. See T.B. Gittin 56a,b. Was this only because he saw defeat as inevitable? Was he also concerned about the possibility of a pyrrhic victory? Was the sovereignty of Yavneh enough to justify not continuing the war? It must be remembered that Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai, at first, it would seem, supported the rebellion. Rabbi Akiva's challenge of Rabbi Yochanan can also not be forgotten, yet, Rabbi Akiva did not challenge the very concept of surrendering but rather, in his mind, the limited concessions for which Rabbi Yochanan settled. It must further be remembered that Rabbi Yochanan's action is considered to have saved Torah l'dorot, for the generations. In any event, in their application to our modern situation, the conditions for Rabbi Yochanan's choice of peace over war must be analyzed - just as the decision to support Bar Kochba and the choice of war over peace in that case must also be analyzed. Of specific significance in the latter case, though, may be the religious persecution of that period, although there is always the question of which came first, and the Messianic perception of Bar Kochba. See Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Melachim 11:3.
False Christ of wars for the shemsham against mankind
In conclusion, in all the debate about Israel, it is the subtle halachic issue of sovereignty at the expense of human life that we often ignore. Both those who favour and those who oppose the present initiative must clarify their positions within this spectrum before tackling the specific matter of the treaty. If one deems life to be simply paramount, then would that not theoretically entail even the foregoing of political sovereignty over Tel Aviv if life could thus be spared? If one deems sovereignty to be simply paramount, then would that not entail foregoing any concessions even at the expense of continued hostilities and the loss of perhaps many lives? If the halachic answer lies somewhere between these two extremes, where is that position to be drawn? The question of whether this position of maintaining sovereignty at the expense of war is one that is allowed or mandated must also be considered. Yet it is in this realm - a world that we as Jews approach hesitantly because of our very concern for life - that we must embark for a halachic clarification, not only of this specific matter but, of the very essence of our commitment to Israel.

In an apparent bid to boost morale in the face of U.S. pressure over the nuclear program, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei mocked Washington in a TV speech, saying its leaders keep to the rear in any confrontation.

Settlers attempt countrywide roadblocks
A day after declaring they would "paralyze the country" in the fight against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's disengagement plan, right-wing activists materialized their promise on Tuesday and blocked off almost simultaneously central Israeli highways near Netanya, Tel Aviv and Ma'aleh Adumim.
While police were spread out along the Ayalon Highway – blocked off last week – and other central roads, they confessed they were taken by surprise and repeated the excuse they have been using since the first road was blocked by right-wingers – "We can't be everywhere at once."
admitting that jews are not omnipresent gods
Burning tires and waving anti-disengagement banners, dozens of right-wing activists (Chabad Lubavitch Hassidim) shut down Road 2 near the Poleg Junction outside of Netanya for half-an-hour during rush hour causing a huge pileup of cars in both directions. An hour earlier, a group of right-wing youths burned tires and blocked off the central road which links Jerusalem to the Dead Sea outside the settlement of Mitzpeh Yeriho. Large police forces flocked to both scenes, dispersed the demonstrations and reopened the roads. 33 activists were arrested by Netanya police.
On Monday, organizers behind the roadblocks told The Jerusalem Post they were planning to paralyze the country by blocking roads and carrying out additional non-violent means of protest. While the organizers admitted that roadblocks would most probably not stop the disengagement plan they said: "We are obligated to try and if tens of thousands of people will participate in these activities there is a chance we can stop the deportation."
66 people – from Jerusalem and the West Bank – were arrested by Tel Aviv police Tuesday night after they were spotted gathering near the Glilot Junction just outside of Herziliya. Police, who also apprehended a number of suspects on a bus in the area, said the group was preparing to block the road.
Meanwhile Tuesday night, a bus carrying dozens of settlers from the settlement of Eli in Samaria were stopped at the Oranit Junction near Elkana as they were on their way to distribute traditional Purim food packages in Netanya. The settlers claimed police stopped the bus and ordered the driver to turn around on the pretext that the settlers were really on their way to block roads. Following the intervention of members of the Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip, the bus was allowed to continue on its way to Netanya.
"We are shocked by the Bolshevik behavior used by the government against our legitimate and non-violent opposition to the disengagement plan," the settlers said in a statement.

Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz takes a grave view of the tactic of blocking roads as a means of protest against the disengagement from Gaza and will consider stiff measures against those who do so, Justice Ministry sources said on Monday.
Mazuz ordered State Attorney lawyers to meet with police and ready themselves with a spectrum of charges to cover the different types of measures that protesters might take to disrupt traffic.
According to the sources, the most serious charge that Mazuz will file, in applicable circumstances, will be that of endangering life on a thoroughfare, a charge which calls for a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
The sources emphasized that this charge would only be used in circumstances that warrant it, such as if a demonstrator throws a rock at a vehicle or pours oil on the road.
Mazuz decided to take serious action against demonstrators who block roads after activists last week ignited a fire on the Ayalon Highway in Tel Aviv, causing severe traffic tie-ups. He said that this type of action had nothing to do with the right to freedom of expression

Ezek:20:8: But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

The man considered to be the Pope’s own choice is Giovanni Battista Re, nicknamed "the carpenter’s son", who has held powerful jobs within the Curia, including deputy to the Secretary of State, Angelo Sodano. There is an Italian saying that "he who enters a conclave tipped to be Pope emerges a Cardinal" - the favourites rarely win. This used to be because the rules governing the conclave dictated that a candidate had to achieve a two-thirds majority plus one, which favoured compromise candidates. In 1996 the Pope changed the rules, which means that after 30 rounds of votes, which would take a number of days, the members could vote to allow a straight majority victor. A new hotel to house the captive cardinals removes the cramped and uncomfortable conditions that characterised previous conclaves.
The election conclave is likely to see a duel between Pope John Paul's powerful right hand, the Italian Archbishop Giovanni Battista Re, and Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, who is disliked by the Roman Curia but admired by non-Italian cardinals.
Pope Not Doing Well on Medication
Mar 22, 4:30 PM (ET)
By VICTOR L. SIMPSON
VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope John Paul II is vomiting, suffering strong headaches and not responding well to his medications, an Italian news agency reported Tuesday, but the pontiff's chief doctor dismissed speculation the pope will be hospitalized again.
The Apcom news agency, quoting unnamed sources, also reported that John Paul was suffering from overall weakness as he recovered from surgery to ease a breathing crisis.
But the head of the pope's medical team, Dr. Rodolfo Proietti, ruled out media speculation that the pope's health had deteriorated suddenly and might require a return to the hospital he was discharged from 10 days ago.
"No hospitalization of John Paul II is planned," the ANSA news agency quoted Proietti as saying.
The Vatican confirmed Tuesday that John Paul will not hold his traditional audience Wednesday, although it was not known if he would greet pilgrims from his apartment window - a decision the pope would make at the last minute.
John Paul has scaled back his appearances since his back-to-back hospitalizations and has designated cardinals to take his place during this week's busy Holy Week ceremonies. The Vatican only has confirmed one appointment for the pontiff - an Easter Sunday blessing.
The pope did not name a stand-in, however, for a Way of the Cross procession at the Colosseum on Good Friday evening, raising the possibility he would participate in some fashion, although it appeared doubtful he would go to the site.
Vatican Television officials said they had installed cables and other equipment in the pope's apartment above St. Peter's Square for the possible transmission of a video to be seen by the pilgrims gathered at the Colosseum.
The pope has made three public appearances since being discharged from the hospital - his latest on Palm Sunday when he blessed the crowd silently from his third-floor window. During that appearance, the pontiff pressed his hand to his head and pounded a lectern in apparent frustration over his difficulty in responding to the crowd.
It was the first time in 26 years as pope that he was unable to preside over the Mass ushering in Holy Week, the most important season on the Christian calendar and long one of his favorite appointments.
Judeao-Churchian Catholicos calendar
While his physical condition is "fragile," John Paul is "perfectly sound mentally," Cardinal Camillo Ruini, who stood in for the pope on Palm Sunday, said in an interview with the Italian religious affairs weekly magazine Famiglia Cristiana. Ruini said the pope "continues to carry out the acts of government and to assume the major decisions, as he has always done."
The 84-year-old pope has been convalescing at the Vatican following Feb. 24 throat surgery to insert a tube in his windpipe and ease his second breathing crisis in less than a month. He also suffers from Parkinson's disease, which affects muscle control and makes it difficult for him to speak clearly.
The pope's gaunt appearance the few times he has been seen has led to speculation in the Italian media that his condition has suffered a sharp setback. Vatican officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, have denied there has been any sudden crisis but acknowledged the convalescence may be behind schedule.
No details on his state of health have been released since the pope's return to the Vatican on March 13.
The Vatican, however, says the pope is carrying out his major duties. On Tuesday, it reported the pope had named new bishops in the Ivory Coast and Spain. Under church law, only a pope can nominate bishops
